As a form of self-expression, I can say everything I need to say, in a song

If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music ~Gustav Mahler

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music ~Aldous Huxley

Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent ~ Victor Hugo

It is true of every art - that you cannot acquire what you have not felt

Each artist expresses through art his unique way of experiencing life. This is the essence of creation. Through our art we bring into existence something that did not previously exist. We enlarge the universe. John Daido Loori

I write based not on what I have done; I write songs based upon what I have felt, and whom I have become

The only trick to writing a new song is you have to have a new idea. And to have a new idea, you've got to be a bit of a new person, so that's where the challenge is ~ Bruce Springsteen

You invent fiction, but what you invent it out of is what counts. True fiction must come from everything you've ever known, ever seen, ever felt, ever learned ~ Ernest Hemingway

Creativity is the fragrance of individual freedom. The creator cannot follow the well trodden path. He has to go alone, he has to be a dropout from the mob mind, from the collective psychology. The mob psychology is uncreative..mechanical. If you want to create, you have to get rid of all conditionings. A creative person is one who has insight, who can see things that nobody has ever seen before, who hears things that nobody has heard before - then there is creativity ~ OSHO

Songwriting is built upon formulas and methodology. Certain formulas prove successful and that is why you think you may have heard a song before. I like to alter the paradigm of songwriting and musical acceptance. I don't want to be constrained by conventional rhythms and melodies. I want to incorporate different elements from a variety of musical genres. Fusion is the future; the branding of a song as a particular style so often goes against the vision of the artist. This is testament to my musical influences - from Rock to Metal to Country to Latin to Classical

There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself ~ Johann Sebastian Bach

I write about moments. I don't write about the everyday ~ Bruce Springsteen

The mistake is to start thinking that you are your songs. To me a song is a vision, a flash: I see characters and situations ~ Bruce Springsteen

Writing, at its best, is a lonely life. Organizations for writers palliate the writer's loneliness but I doubt if they improve his writing. He grows in public stature as he sheds his loneliness and often his work deteriorates. For he does his work alone and if he is a good enough writer he must face eternity, or the lack of it, each day. For a true writer each book should be a new beginning where he tries again for something that is beyond attainment. He should always try for something that has never been done or that others have tried and failed. Then sometimes, with great luck, he will succeed." ~- Ernest Hemingway, Nobel laureate speech

There's no retirement for an artist, it's your way of living so there's no end to it ~ Henry Moore
